Play Priorities
A major regional centre and booming holiday haven on the south coast of NSW, Shellharbour boasts a beautiful beach, bobbing boats, parklands and promenade. Its extensive Stocklands shopping centre includes includes major retailers and over 200 specialty stores. The centre wanted to include new playspaces to support its family focus and provide an easier and more appealing shopping experience for carers and children alike. Creating the right playground was challenging, with limited space available and an indoor location â with a 3-metre-high roof, slightly angled floor, and supporting pylon to work around. Accessibility was also a priority, to allow all children to feel comfortable and enjoy imaginative adventures.
Fun Solution
Positioned outside a Target store, the playgroundâs âpirate shipâ and underwater theme was inspired by the coastal location. Working with the client, as well as Variety Australia, the childrenâs charity, we helped create an inclusive playground for children of all abilities to play together. The bespoke play ship and endeavour ship provide great opportunities to interact and role play, while the tube slide is a constant drawcard! Below-deck adventures are wheelchair accessible and a ground-levelled âtunnel-thru moundâ provides a quieter, even-surfaced space for sensory relief. Shopping never looked so good!
