Play Priorities
Providing a home for a tree, grown from the cutting of a plant which survived the 1945 Nagasaki bombing, and honouring the universal quest for peace was the central focus for this suburban reserve.
The camphor tree, gifted by Japan as a symbol of goodwill, forms the heart of this Japanese-themed park, which combines traditional garden sculpture with contemplative spaces and a small playground.
Native plants from New Zealand, combined with Japanese elements representing peace, prosperity and good will, creates a lasting legacy.
Fun Solution
Centred around the Peace Tree, this landscaped natural reserve provides both a contemplative retreat with zen gardens and an active play space for local young families.
New Zealand natives are on show at one end, connected by a boardwalk to a Japanese-themed garden featuring natives, pebble paths, rock sculptures that signify good luck, and Yukimi-gata lanterns to illuminate the Peace Tree. Fencing features seven horizontal palings also symbolise good luck.
Our popular TR327 Play Module was redesigned to feature a Japanese-style roof and barriers were customised to mirror the lucky fencing design. The solid timber climbing structure includes our two most popular slides alongside a firepole, scaling wall, ladders and shop counter.
Moreover, the reserve also features our new Urban Pergola Swing Set- 2 Bay showcasing seven timber palings that complements its overall Japanese theming.
