Play Priorities
Outlines Landscape Architects had a vision for the new community play space in Tarneit and it included timber (and lots of it). The idea was to give the play space, located within one of Melbourneâs burgeoning outer-west suburbs, a more natural look and feel. But it wasnât just about looks; the timber features that make this playground standout had to stand up to the Australian climate so local children and their families could enjoy it for many years to come. The playgroundâs design also sought to maximise the developmental benefits of active and imaginative play, incorporating a diverse range of equipment to entice children to stay and play, and keep coming back for more fun-filled visits.
Fun Solution
A focal point for the nature-themed playground is a Wobbly Wood tower (or hut) with a giant, tubular slide that can be accessed via a jungle-style walk created with a rope climbing net. The adventure doesnât stop there! Little explorers have a wide range of other equipment to play on and to develop their strength, balance and coordination skills. Catering for children of all ages and abilities, the playground equipment includes a combination of swings on sturdy timber frames, a smaller slide for younger children, a springer and a host of interactive pieces designed to encourage social interaction.
