Play Priorities

When the Otago District Council asked the community of Cromwell what they wanted to include in the re-development of the iconic Big Fruit Reserve, a playground was high on their list of priorities. Playground Centre was as pleased as punch to help the Council and the community achieve their vision for a playground that would provide good, wholesome fun for children of all ages – locals and visitors alike.

Fun Solution

Situated right beside Cromwell’s famous ‘big fruit’, the reserve’s playground is positively bursting with colour and boasts an array of play equipment.

The playground’s design includes ‘junior’ and ‘senior’ play zones, featuring equipment specially chosen to provide fun, development-enriching play experiences for younger and older children.

In the junior playground, little hands are kept busy with the sand and water play equipment – whether they are excavating with the ‘digger’, or ‘pumping’ water and watching it flow down the ‘river’. While older children and young adults are spoilt for choice with a Space Shuttle climbing net, 2.7m high Climbing Metaplay tower and slide, carousel and two Mega Swings. The Mega Swings are specifically designed for young adults with the top bar set at 3.2m to guarantee an extra adrenalin rush!

To top it off, everything in the park was given a pop of custom colour to create a fresh, zesty colour palette that’s straight out of the fruit bowl.
