Play Priorities
While thousands of children visit Takapuna Beach each year, the neighbouring Goulds Reserve was always missing an essenital ingredient for fun: play equipment. Sloping down to the beach, and with panoramic views, the reserve provided the ideal blank canvas for a âdestination playgroundâ.
Neighbouring residents Jackie Kerridge and Chris Reeves spotted its potential and spearheaded a privately funded play space that could be enjoyed by the community and visitors for years to come. Priorities were accessibility â a welcoming, safe and inclusive space for all ages and abilities â as well as variety, challenges, novelty, and world-class excitement.
Fun Solution
Designed for adults and children alike, this fantastically fun space has everything â with breathtaking visual appeal too. Importantly, people of all abilities can play together â with a wheelchair carousel, wheelchair trampoline, flying saucer basket swing, and net seesaw.
A huge tower is the big drawcard, proving a popular hit from day one. Standing at nine metres high, it has three twirling tube slides (all at different heights) and joins to an (almost) seven-metre high climbing rope structure via a fully enclosed rope bridge.
With sand and water play for the little ones, a âmose house hamster wheelâ, hammocks and swings, it truly is a happy space for everyone â all with the soundtrack of shared laughter, delighted squeals and gentle waves breaking on the shoreline.
