Play Priorities
Herne Hill School is the largest independent pre-school and pre-prep in the UK focusing exclusively on 2 to 7-year-olds. When it came to creating a new play and exploration area for kindergarten students, the schoolâs Director, Dominik Maygar, wanted it to reflect a deep commitment to providing the best opportunities for children to explore, experiment and problem-solve through play.
The natural environment was also a focus, with the children grouped into four small classes called Heather, Lavender, Rosemary and Sage â with their namesakes all planted in the kindergarten garden. With a relatively compact outdoor space, the challenge was to feature as much fun and development opportunities as possible.
Fun Solution
The project called for outstanding project management, communication and planning between our design, production and customer support teams. Distance proved no obstacle, as we worked closely and effectively with Dominik to transform his initial vision into the ideal play space, using our Great 8 best-practice playground design principles.
Our wobbly wood playground equipment injects a beautiful natural look â with its off-beat shapes and irregular lines providing safe and age-appropriate challenges to help children build confidence and thrive. To fit the space, our design team modified one of our popular sand play designs to provide a new sand play module complete with buckets and pulley systems. The module was delivered to site as a kitset, complete with a full set of instructions and building plans for the onsite building contractor to install.
The process, and end result, have provided a genuine success, with Dominik saying: âPlayground Centre turned our vision into an incredible play space for our school students. The project was a smooth, easy and enjoyable experience. The new toddler play area is an absolute hit with the children, and we are delighted with the results.â
