“Playground centre were amazing to work with the whole process of Memorial park. They took our ideas from the design phase and came up with a concept that told the stories of the park and took the poppy theme throughout the design.
They were right on time with manufacturing the structure and install was on time as well.
Looking at the design on paper looked just like what they constructed.

Also one great thing we have found with playground Centre is their back up service on their work and product.”

Play Priorities

When it came to redeveloping its Memorial Park playground, Palmerston North City Council wanted to create an exciting and colourful space for all ages. We were delighted to work with them from the concept to completion, to design and install the ideal equipment for the purpose and area. The result is a beautiful poppy-themed playground, reflecting the area’s link to military involvement and celebrating community – with fun for mixed abilities and generations.

Fun Solution

The drawcard is the custom-built tower adorned by giant poppies that includes a ‘comet tail’ climbing tube – a rope net structure inside the tower; and a combination of slides - a thrilling tubular slide and a lower, smaller slide).

For the littlies, the Edendale 116 modular play system features a tunnel, wobbly bridge and slide. Its platforms are lower to the ground, while still providing fun challenges and developing essential skills of toddlers and preschool children.

The main playground also features a range of swings which promote high-flying fun and inclusive play. The 4-Bay Deluxe Swing was fitted with a combination of standard swings, as well as a Special Needs Seat and the cleverly-designed Expression Swing Seat which enables an adult and child to swing together, facing each other. In fact, in a nod to the sustainability-focused and cost-savvy Palmerston North City Council, the swing was move from another location and up-cycled by Playground Centre to include the new seats and powdercoated to match the Council’s colours.

The emphasis on inclusive and accessible playground equipment continues throughout the playground, with installations designed to encourage interaction and engagements – from balancing balls and ropes, climbing walls and fall nets to Talk Tubes. And with smooth ramps linking the various play zones, everyone can play together.
